Itinerary
Day 1: Hike to the Bjelasnica Mountains
Today we hike to the less travelled side of the Olympic ski slopes of the Bjelasnica mountain range. The trail takes us through a pine and beech forest to the “Gate of the Wind”, where either a gentle breeze or a harsh southerly wind awaits us. From here we climb to a small shepherd’s hut (at 1,620 m). After a short rest we set off on the steep climb to the top of Hranisava (1,964 m), which offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. We then descend to the traditional Krosnje summer camp before returning to our cosy mountain hut.

Day 2: Hike over the ridge from Bjelasnica to the village of Lukomir
After breakfast we start our hike along the ridge of the Bjelasnica mountain range to the Ljeljen peaks (1,938 m) and the Greda pass before finally reaching the village of Lukomir, the highest village in Bosnia. Here we experience the traditional life of the shepherds and enjoy the breathtaking views of the Rakitnica canyon.

Day 3: Descent into the Rakitnica Canyon and crossing to Visocica
After a hearty breakfast, we start our descent into the deepest and least explored part of Europe, the Rakitnica Canyon. After a long descent, we reach the Rakitnica and cross one of the old “Indiana Jones” style suspension bridges before climbing up to the Vrela mountain hut on the opposite side, where we will spend the night.

Accommodation: Vrela mountain hut, Tusila village
Day 4: Climbing Vito peak and returning to Sarajevo
On the last day of our hike, we climb Vito Peak (1,960 m), which rewards us with spectacular 360-degree views. After descending from the summit and a scenic ridge walk that offers us unforgettable views, we return to Tusila. In the afternoon, we are transferred to Sarajevo.
