Sutjeska National Park is a true jewel of the Republika Srpska and the oldest and largest national park in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It covers an area of 16,052 hectares and combines dense forests, meadows and pastures in a breathtaking way. Sutjeska is particularly notable as the home of Europe's last remaining rainforest, Perucica, and Bosnia and Herzegovina's highest peak, Maglić, which rises to 2386 meters. The park is also historically significant due to the Battle of Sutjeska in 1943 during World War II.
Visitors to Sutjeska National Park are often left speechless, describing it as a “respite for the heart and soul”. The park offers a peaceful escape with its pristine nature, silent mountain meadows and mystical forests. The crystal clear rivers and streams, the majestic eagles and the enchanting shadows on the lakes of Mt. Zelengora create an atmosphere of pure magic.
Sutjeska is a paradise for hikers with nine marked trails. The longest trail stretches for 22 kilometers and takes about 8 hours to complete at a moderate pace. These trails offer breathtaking views and the chance to encounter wildlife such as wolves and bears in their natural habitat. Whether you are looking for adventure or tranquility, Sutjeska National Park promises an unforgettable experience.
