This three-day self-guided cycling tour takes you through the remote mountainous regions connecting Sarajevo and Mostar, offering breathtaking natural experiences. Also known as the "Herzegovinian Himalayas", the region boasts ancient forests, jagged peaks, hidden waterfalls, alpine lakes and rivers where you can swim along the way.
On this tour you will cycle deep into the mountains, passing small, isolated settlements where life has remained unchanged for centuries. Both on and off the bike you will have the opportunity to explore the unique cultural heritage of this ancient mountain kingdom. Medieval gravestones scattered along the roadside tell of times long past. The tour takes you through Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, host of the 1984 Winter Olympics, and charming Mostar with its famous bridge, a symbol of the connection between East and West.
Additional tour options: This tour can also be done as a 5-day cycling tour with an extension in the highland village of Lukomir and an additional night in Mostar.
Another option is to do the tour in the opposite direction, from Mostar to Sarajevo, or the route to the Adriatic coast and Dubrovnik along the old Austro-Hungarian narrow-gauge railway, which has been revitalized as a cycle path.

Itinerary:
Day 1: Olympic Experience and the Sarajevo War Road On the first day, you will start from Sarajevo and cycle through the dense pine forests of the Igman Mountains along the “Igman War Route”. After the Igman Mountains, you will cross the open rocky plains and peaks of the Bjelašnica Mountains and reach the village of Tušila and the Vrela mountain hut. Here, in the heart of the Dinaric Alps, a well-deserved dinner and a restful night await you.

Day 2: Caravan route across three different mountain ranges of the Dinaric Alps Today's hike starts right from the hut and takes you across the Visočica mountain ranges to Lake Boračko, along the "caravan route" that was once used as a trade route during the Ottoman period. Along the way, you will pass medieval tombstones and monuments that remind you of the former kingdom that stretched all the way to the Dalmatian coast. We recommend stopping in the village of Luka for a coffee in one of the street cafes. At the end of the day, one last short climb awaits you before you reach Lake Boračko, where you can take a refreshing swim.

Day 3: Cycling from the warm emerald waters of Boračko Glacier Lake to Mostar On the final day, your ride begins with a strenuous climb out of Boračko Lake and takes you through the Prenj Mountains, also known as the “Bosnian Himalayas”. This challenging route features switchbacks and climbs on a mix of gravel and asphalt roads. Along the way, you'll pass Ruište, a small mountain village with a secluded ski resort on the edge of the Prenj Mountains. Be sure to enjoy an espresso on the terrace of the Snježna Kuća hotel. Continue along the aquamarine Neretva River, surrounded by endless vineyards of authentic Blatina and Žilavka grapes, found only in the arid karst regions of Herzegovina. In the late afternoon, you'll reach charming Mostar with its famous bridge.
