This five-day adventure through Sutjeska National Park is one of the best that Bosnia and Herzegovina has to offer. It includes Perućica – the primeval forest, Maglić – the highest peak in Bosnia, several high altitude mountain lakes, dramatic views and wildlife; it also offers the opportunity to reconnect with nature.
Day 1:
After a two-hour drive through gorges and forests, we reach the oldest national park in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Not far from there, we drive up a gravel road into the heart of the park - Zelengora. In Donje Bare, we park the vehicle, take a short walk and leave our backpacks in the newly built mountain hut in Donje Bare. Donje Bare Lake is surrounded by dense forests on one side and open mountain meadows on the other. We pass it on our way to the Ugljesin peak at 1,858 m.
It is no coincidence that we have chosen the Pyramid Peak as our destination. From here, the highest peak in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Maglić at 2,386 metres) rises above us, as does the rock wall barrier of Volujak and the 1,200-metre-deep gorge of the Sutjeska River. We return to the hut via Gornje Bare, completing the fantastic four-hour hike.

Day 2:
The group will set off for Orlovačko Lake in a remote and relatively unknown area of the Zelengora Mountains. From the lake, the group will ascend to Bregoč (2,014 metres) on unmarked trails across open meadows. Participants will hike through a steep valley before arriving at the base of an ascending ridge leading to the summit of Bregoč. After a short rest, the group will descend to the various lakes of Zelengora. The day will be rounded off with a swim in Orlovačko Lake and an early dinner.

Day 3:
The group will drive just over 45 minutes to the medieval Peručica forest. The park is a treasure trove of wildlife and a large number of endemic plants. The park is also home to the highest and most impressive mountain in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Maglić, named after the thick fog that often surrounds its rocky peak. The car will be left at a viewpoint – Dragoš Sedlo, with its colorful view of one of the two remaining medieval forests in Europe – Peručica. The group will pass a beautiful waterfall “Skakavac” that plunges 75 meters into the dark spruce and beech forest of Peručica, and then a magical forest of beautiful 50 meter high spruce and beech trees. Participants will likely come across trees that are 200-300 years old. It will probably already be sunset when the group drives back to the hotel.

Day 4:
The group will head to Lokva Dernečište, located at 1,667 meters, where today's hike through a forest and open mountain terrain will begin. The climb to Maglić mountain (2,386 meters) will take about four hours on well-maintained mountain trails with steep cliffs and is the most challenging part of today's hike. People with a fear of heights should refrain from this tour. Lunch will be taken at Maglić, with breathtaking views of Montenegro and Trnovačko Lake with its emerald green waters far below - the next destination of the tour. The descent to Trnovačko Lake will take about three hours, where participants can enjoy the refreshing waters and the views of Volujak and Maglić. From the lake, the group will hike back to Prijevor and then be transferred back to the hotel in Tjentiste.
