SARAJEVO – CITY ON THE BANK OF THE RIVER MILJACKA HAS "SOMETHING SPECIAL"
Centuries of multiculturalism have led to the creation of a unique, rich and captivating cultural mix in Sarajevo, which draws visitors from all corners of the world like a powerful magnet. Therefore, it is not surprising that Sarajevo, the capital and largest city of Bosnia and Herzegovina with a population of about 300,000, is often referred to as the European Jerusalem. The city is really big, but most of the attractions are located in the center, the Old Town and along the Miljacka River, so you can explore it on foot.
For easier navigation, download the free Guide2Sarajevo app, which offers an electronic city map, navigation and even 67 audio guides for top attractions without an internet connection. There you will find recommendations for excursions, restaurants, pharmacies… For those who prefer maps and tourist brochures in printed form, the Tourist Information Center is located near the main square in Baščaršija. And right there is the best place to start exploring the city, which, as they say, has something really special.
MOSTAR – THE SUNNY PEARL OF HERZEGOVINA
As the largest city in Herzegovina and the fifth largest in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mostar is one of the most visited destinations in the country and a favorite among tourists arriving from the Croatian coast. One thing is for sure: almost everyone who visits it falls in love with its architecture, relaxed atmosphere, understated charm and the rich history it proudly displays.
Located in the valley between Hum Hill and at the foot of Velež Mountain, Mostar is also one of the warmest cities in the region, with temperatures reaching up to 40 degrees in summer. Spring and autumn are therefore ideal times to visit this beautiful city. What to do in Mostar? Everything! Walk the streets, take in the colors and scents, admire the architecture…
"BOBIJAŠKO OKO" – A SMALL LAKE WITH THE HUMAN FISH
Given the immense wealth of natural phenomena and beauties that delight even the most demanding travelers, it is challenging to make lists when it comes to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Here you will find impressive mountain peaks, beautiful forests, ancient fortresses, fields, lakes and rivers that are breathtaking to look at. However, many will agree that Bobijaško Oko is one of the most beautiful hidden gems of this country.
The lake, whose size depends on the season and rainfall, is located at the foot of the Grmeč mountain range, and according to legend, fairies and elves visit this place every evening. Swimming is strictly prohibited, and an interesting piece of information is that a few years ago cave divers from Great Britain discovered the so-called human fish (Proteus anguinus) here.
PLIVA LAKES – THE LARGEST NATURAL LAKES IN BIH
Not far from Jajce there is a unique aquatic biotope, the most significant of which are the Veliko and Malo Plivsko lakes - a kilometer-long water oasis that enchants everyone with its beauty. The lakes are ideal for kayaking and canoeing, and in the area you can rent bikes or try the zipline. Of course, in addition to a car campsite, there are also apartments, a hotel, a motel and restaurants for vacationers.
UNUSUAL STONE BALLS IN ZAVIDOVIĆI
Halfway between Zenica and Doboj, in the forest near the town of Zavidovići, there is a phenomenon for which science offers no concrete answers, only theories. Almost 60 stone balls of extremely regular shape have been found in this area, some of which are up to 2 meters in diameter, and no one knows who made them or why they are there. Theories try to explain them as an unexpected result of glacier movement in the distant past or as the remains of a meteorite, while bolder theorists claim that they are the remains of an ancient civilization.
JAJCE – FORMER CAPITAL OF BOSNIA KINGS
Jajce is one of the most interesting yet underrated places in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a true gem of the Balkans. The town has a long and fascinating history, which is evident in its numerous well-preserved sights. The entire area was already populated in ancient times, but reached its peak in the Middle Ages, when Jajce served as the capital of the independent Bosnian Kingdom.
Enjoy beautiful views of the Pliva River waterfalls in the town center, visit the Temple of God Mitras, climb into the old town of Jajce and explore the catacombs, indulge in traditional dishes such as pita ispod sač, jajačka prevrta, bosanski lonac and more.
