The Bear Tower is one of the defensive watchtowers that protected the city from invaders from the west. From the top of the tower, the movements of the enemies could be observed. It is said to be so named because it has enormous walls up to six meters thick. Another opinion says that bears used to live in it and prisoners were thrown onto them.
Jajce also has a Franciscan monastery, which houses one of the best museums in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Many visitors are surprised to find that the last king rests in a glass coffin, and numerous priceless relics can be found here, such as an ethnographic collection, depictions of Mithras and Medusa, a short knife and the sword "Mošunj", Hrvoje's Missal, Hval's Codex and a reproduction of the manuscript of the Bosnian Church.
Visit Mlinčići – a few kilometers from the city center, there are twenty watermills on a travertine dam between the Great and Small Pliva Lakes. They were renovated several years ago, and six of them are still in operation and offer freshly ground flour for sale, while the others serve mainly as monuments.
Do not forget the old town of Jajce, which, unlike others, still has its inhabitants and has not been turned into fortresses or museums. This is one of the few preserved fortified urban settlements with all the features of a 15th century urban center.
