Bjelašnica: top skiing and more... The mountain jewel of the Balkans
Bjelašnica is Bosnia's Olympic mountain and is located just 25 kilometers from the capital city of Sarajevo. It offers a variety of activities for tourists all year round, especially in winter. From long ski slopes, hiking trails, mountain bike trails to a rich selection of traditional and modern cuisine and first-class hotels, Bjelašnica has everything for your perfect winter vacation.

Bjelašnica mountain was one of the venues for the men's alpine skiing competitions during the XIV Winter Olympics in Sarajevo in 1984. During the Winter Olympics, numerous sports and tourist facilities were built on Bjelašnica, which are still in operation today. From November to May, Bjelašnica is covered with snow, forming high snowdrifts that reach heights of several meters, making it a popular tourist attraction.
A meteorological station was built on the highest peak of Bjelašnica, at 1894 meters above sea level, which is the highest inhabited point in all of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bjelašnica offers 8,345 meters of ski slopes for all alpine disciplines. Your journey begins on a ski slope that descends from the peak of Bjelašnica at 2,067 meters above sea level and ends in Babin Dol at 1,266 meters above sea level.
This corresponds to the identical track to the Olympic downhill slope. Bjelašnica has a chairlift along the downhill slope, a double chairlift along the slalom and giant slalom tracks and three ski lifts. There are also floodlights for night skiing, so lovers of night skiing can enjoy a well-groomed and illuminated moderately steep slope.
The Bjelašnica Rainforest
Little known is the fact that the slopes of Bjelašnica Mountain hide a unique rainforest called Ravna Vala. It is a rare rainforest where the height of individual trees reaches up to 40 meters, a piece of untouched nature that has not been influenced by humans except for scientific intervention. The Ravna Vala rainforest is home to the brown bear, the largest wild animal in Bosnia and Herzegovina, among other wild animals. It is also home to numerous other endemic and relict species.
From Bjelašnica you can take a walk through the rainforest to Mount Igman, another Olympic beauty. The trail in both directions is 8 kilometers long and suitable for a family outing with small children along the entire route.
Outdoor activities
Bjelašnica, the beautiful mountain massif in the heart of Bosnia and Herzegovina, not only impresses with its picturesque nature, but also offers excellent opportunities for a variety of outdoor activities. This mountain paradise, located near the capital city of Sarajevo, has become synonymous with nature lovers, sports enthusiasts and adventurers.
Hiking and walking

Bjelašnica has always been a great challenge for adventurers who want to explore this mysterious mountain. Among the numerous hiking trails on Bjelašnica, the most famous is the "Josip's Trail", which leads to the highest peak of the mountain at 2067 meters. The trail is named after mountaineering legend Josip Siegmund, who traced and marked it in 1934. Another popular hiking route leads from the village of Umoljani to Lukomir, parallel to the Rakitnica Canyon, and offers views that are hard to describe in words.
Mountain biking

For those who want to explore the natural beauty of Bjelašnica and its surroundings in a more dynamic way, the Sarajevo Olympic Bike Park offers over 100 kilometers of marked mountain bike trails. They start at the springs of the Bosna River in Ilidža, cross Mount Igman and extend to Babin Do.
Driving quad

Experience panoramic quad biking and explore the gravel roads or snow-covered trails. This unique adventure will take you to the most beautiful viewpoints in the Dinaric Alps. Quad tours on Bjelašnica follow mountain paths and Dinaric trails to the highest and most remote village in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lukomir, located on the southern slopes of Bjelašnica, about 50 kilometers from Sarajevo, at an altitude of about 1,500 meters.
Ziplining

Bjelašnica has recently added an adrenaline rush to its offer. In the village of Lukavac, near Babin Do, the longest zipline in Bosnia and Herzegovina was opened. It stretches for 1 kilometer at an altitude of 1430 meters. Ziplining as a form of adrenaline sport has become very popular, especially in recent years.
All you need is enthusiasm and some free time, and in return you will be rewarded with great adrenaline experiences and the challenges of this ride, as well as the opportunity to enjoy incredible views created by the beauty of the landscape you fly over.
To ski

Bjelašnica is the highest ski resort in Bosnia and Herzegovina with the best and most challenging slopes, which hosted the men's competitions during the 1984 Winter Olympics. Sarajevo is only 25 km away and the ski resort is developing exceptionally fast.
The resort of Babin Do is located at the end of the slope at an altitude of 1250 meters. In the summer months it is a popular tourist destination, and in winter it is a ski center. The high snowdrifts, which can reach several meters, are a special attraction. Winter is particularly interesting due to the landscape offered by the mountain covered with a blanket of snow, resembling a white desert bathed in sunlight, above which nothing but a heavenly landscape stretches.
Most accommodation is just a few minutes' walk from the ski slopes. Shops, bars, restaurants and souvenir shops are located along the circular route that passes through Babin Do. Parking is available at the lower chairlift station and the starting polygon for an additional fee. Winters here are long and snowy, and the mountain takes its name from the white peak where the snow stays for a very long time.
Bjelašnica – Nightlife
Tourism is a major contributor to nightlife. More and more cities and tourist destinations are gearing their offerings to a predominantly young population that wants to experience activities both during the day and at night in one place. Young people like to spend their holidays with an active nightlife, looking for entertainment, social contacts and meeting new people. The tourist offer is becoming richer in content that offers this.
Thus, from the usual hospitality offer, a rich nightlife develops through various entertainment concerts and pop events for young people, nightclubs, organized events that are no longer limited to indoor spaces but extend to streets, squares, beaches, campsites and swimming pools, involving the entire population of the place in the organization of such events.
Nightlife not only focuses on the needs of young people, but also extends to content that suits the older part of the population, including visits to gaming clubs, bars, pubs, casinos and other similar venues. Well-organized nightlife, rich and interesting content further develop tourist destinations.
