When you arrive in Kraljeva Sutjeska, you will feel like you have travelled back to the times of the Bosnian kings. Kraljeva Sutjeska and the Bobovac Fortress were the residences of the Bosnian kings Tomaš and Tvrtko from the Kotromanić dynasty. This historic fortress is of great importance as it housed the Bosnian royal crown and the royal burial chapel, which is believed to have been remodeled by King Stjepan Ostoja.
Three Bosnian kings are buried here: Stjepan Ostoja, Tvrtko II Kotromanić and Stjepan Tomaš Kotromanić. The only fully preserved structure in Bobovac is the mausoleum built by Queen Katarina for King Tvrtko after his death, although his remains were relocated during the last war. In honor of the last Bosnian queen, St. Catherine, women in traditional costumes wear black shawls as a sign of mourning.
We recommend bringing a water bottle, wearing comfortable shoes for easy walking and getting ready for a short history lesson. After a two-hour drive you will reach Kraljeva Sutjeska and the medieval town of Bobovac. Join us on a journey that will amaze you with its history and beauty.
Please note that the tour can be booked from May 15th to December 1st.
